Review On Lunch Buffet @ The Fern Tree Cafe (Hotel Miramar Singapore)

Definitely One Of The More Affordable And Quality Buffets I've Been Too. I Guess Cafes Located In Hotels Do Have A Minimum Standard And This One Is Just Exceptionally Good. I Will Go On To Prove My Point That This Buffet Is Definitely Worth Your Time And Money And Of Course, Worth Gaining Some Fats! And DO ADVANCE BOOKING As With The Current 1-For-1 Promotion, This Place Is Rather Popular And It Is Unlikely That You Will Find Seats If You Walk-In.

(Place Looks Empty Because
It's 2pm When I Took This Picture)

Lovely Atmosphere! The Ambience Of The Cafe Is Pretty Neat, With Christmas Decorations And Drawings On The Mirrors. Christmas Songs Were Also Being Played To Bring Out The Christmas Mood.

Sashimi Spread Was Rather Simple - With Just Salmon And Tuna. The Tuna Was Really Juicy And Sweet And It Was Way Fresher Compared To The Salmon! Prawns Were Really Huge And There Was Scallop And Mussels. That's Actually All The Spread For Seafood. Small Variety But I Wouldn't Complain Because Overall, The Food Was Just Really Fresh.

The Four Different Ways Of Making A Chicken Dish
With Black Pepper Dory Fish, Mussels And Sotong And Fried Rice

Crab Croquette, Siew Mai, Steamed Pork Rib.

Spaghetti With Presto Sauce (Garlic And Cream)

Clam Chowder. Not Too Thick.

Piping Hot Mee Rebus. Tasted Heavenly.

What I Find Really Interesting And Astonishing About This Place Is How The Chef Can Actually Come Up With So Many Ways To Cook A Simple Chicken Dish. There Is Braised Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Cheesy Cream Chicken And Mushroom Chicken. And All Of Them Were Simply Delicious, Though My Preference Was The Cheesy Cream Chicken (Because I LOVE CHEESE). The Beef Stew With Red Wine Was Slightly Tough But The Sauce Was Splendid.

It's Really Heartwarming To See How Buffet Concepts Have Shifted To Healthy Eating, Which Is Really Important. There's A Salad Bar That Allows You To Mix And Match Vegetables And Fruits Were Also Served.

There Were 3 Different Desserts Served But I Was Too Full To Try All. Got To Love The Glutinous Rice Ball With Yam Paste! There Was Also Cheng Tng And Bubur Hitam.

Simply Amazed By The Cakes. The Cakes Were Soft And Spongy And They Weren't Too Sweet. And Also, The Cakes Were Cut Into Really Small Pieces (So You Get To Try All Without Over-Eating) The Nonya Kuehs Tasted Pretty Decent Too!

Ended Off With Ice Cream!!! Four Different Flavours To Choose From - Blueberry, Mango, Yam And Lemon As Well As 3 Different Toppings!

The Service Was Exceptional. The Clearing Of Plates Was Definitely The Most Efficient I've Actually Experienced At A Buffet. The Chefs Also Does Periodical Checks To See If Any Of The Food Trays Were Empty. Empty Trays Were Either Almost Refilled Immediately Or Are Replaced With Other Dishes.

The Buffet Dinner Is Much Costlier But You Can Expect More For Sashimi And There's Free Flow Anchor Beer!

You Are Missing Out On Life If You Haven't Tried This Out.

Review On Dim Sum Buffet @ Ban Heng Restaurant (Harbourfront Centre)

Finally Have Some Time To Do Another Buffet Review Because I've Been Really Busy Lately. This One Is Not Too Bad. Even Though There Weren't Much Guest On A Saturday Afternoon, There Were Plenty Of Tables So Booking May Not Be Necessary. This Is An Ala Carte Buffet, So You Get To Order What You Want.

Place Looks Pretty Classy.

As You Can See From The Menu, The Buffet Offers A Decent Range Of Selection For A Dim Sum Ala Carte Buffet At A Reasonable Price. However, They Should Have A Menu Displaying These Delicacies To Make It Look More Appealing And Appetising.

Finger Food Which You Can Just Take And Go

The Fried Man Tou Was Crisp On The Outside.
The Chicken Wings Were Well Seasoned.

Shrimp Dumplings Which Goes Fantastic With The Special Sauce.

Fried Shrimp Dumpling &
You Tiao With Salad Cream

Look At The Spread!!!
The Siew Mai & Steam Shanghai Meat Dumpling (小笼包)
Is Definitely Worth Trying!

Osmanthus Jelly!

A Majority Of Their Selection Contains Prawns Which Is Considered As Seafood, So If You Have An Allergy To Seafood, I Definitely Recommend You To Give This A Skip. One Thing That I Was Hoping To See On The Menu But Did Not, Was The Chinese Salted Egg Custard Bun (流沙包).

Service Was Okay And Waiting Time Was Relatively Short (Around 5-10 Mins). But They Made A Mistake And We Waited Half An Hour For Our Orders To Come And It Took Quite A Few Prompts.

Overall, The Food Is Decent And I Do Feel That This Place Is Worth Giving A Try If You Enjoy Dim Sum And You Have A WHALE Appetite. There Is No Doubt Though, That There Are Are Definitely Better Places To Have Dim Sum In Singapore.

Lunch (11.30pm - 2.30pm)

A Cushion Is Something I Would Rather Be.

Just Watched The Movie: Our Times (我的少女时代) And Realised Xu Tai Yu's Character Actually Has Some Resemblance To Mine. Of Course Not In Terms Of Looks And Neither Is It In Terms Of Confidence. He Is Definitely The Perfect Guy Who Can Be So Bad Ass At The Same Time. Probably One In A Million.

I'm Definitely No Where Near That. But The Things He Do, The Way He Does It, The Type Of Person He Is, Feels So Familiar. Because That's How I Feel Most Of The Times. I'll Like To Put The Blame Of Everything That Happens On Myself. Anything That Happens That is Related To Me Has To Be My Fault Right? It's Either Me Not Trying, Not Trying Hard Enough Or Trying Too Hard. It's Just Stupid. I'm Stupid. Somehow I'll Always Think That If It's My Fault, Everyone Else Will Feel Better. Maybe Things Will Change. But That Isn't The Case Right?

I Make Mistakes Or At Least I Believe I Did And I Try To Make Things Right. If I Can't Then I'll Promise Myself To Stay Away So As To Not Bring More Pain Into Their Lives. I Guess That's What The Imperfect Me Is So Perfectly Good At.

I Guess That's Why I'm Always Helping Others And Taking Responsibilities For Things That Has Or Hasn't Got Anything To Do With Me. I'll Rather Be The One Taking All The Blame. It's Because I See Exactly How Little I'm Worth And To Make Myself Feel A Little Better, To Be Worth A Little More Maybe, I Got To Try. Not That Being Low Self Esteem Is Entirely A Bad Thing. Having The Ability To Constantly Reflect On Your Actions Actually Does Enough Good To Balance With The Bads.

Likewise, I'll Rather It Be Me Giving More, A Whole Lot More Than Receiving. I Used To Think If I Give Means I'll Receive But That's Just Bullshit. The World Don't Recognise How Much You Give Neither Do They Recognise How Much You Receive. Karma Don't Exist But Coincidence Does. But Soon Enough, I Realised You Cannot Give Without Receiving. It's Really Just A Matter Of Perception. Sometimes Giving Makes You Feel Better.

That Just Explains Me. Just Like How Xu Tai Yu Would Rather Run 50 Rounds Than To See Anyone Else In The Class Take The Blame. Just Like How He Would Change Himself Because He Didn't Want To Lose Another Friend. That Thought Is So Familiar, Of Course Not Exactly Applicable In Our World Since It's Just A Movie, But In The Small Things That Is Happening In My Life. That's What I've Been Trying To Do Constantly. It May Not Be Recognised But I Really Don't Care Anymore. If I Exist Then This Has To Be The Reason I Did. I Guess I'll Always Be A Cushion For Others To Fall On To. And One Day That Cushion Will Lose It's Cushioning And Hopefully That'll Be The Day I'll Take The Greatest Fall Of Someone's Life. And.. Maybe, Just Maybe I Could Make A Difference..

It's Time To Get Serious.

For Real This Time.

I'll Always Tell Myself To Work Really Hard (Both Physically And Academically) At The Start Of Each Semester But The Motivation Just Dies Off After The First Or At Most Second Week. And Of Course I Know Why But I Never Really Bothered To Make A Change. The Change Was Always In My Head, But My Clumsy Hands And Idiotic Legs Just Say NOOO! Go F*** Yourself. Ohhh Yea.

It Has Been A Struggle For Years Actually. Just Take A Look At This.

2,789 Hours On Record

Or Should I Say 116 Days Of My Life Playing Dota Or 1.64% Of My Current Life (Without Sleep/Eating/Shitting). Assuming I Live To An Age Of 70, That Accounts To About

0.45% Of My Entire Life Wasted
OR
About 1.5% Of My Youth Wasted.

I Must Be So Damn Insane. Of Course This Number Of Hours Isn't Entirely Accurate Because I Spend Probably A Quarter Of The Time Doing Other Things While Waiting For My Friends To Join.

Playing Dota Isn't Entirely A Waste Of Time Actually But It's Definitely Unproductive. It's A Game That Really Works On Your Reflexes And Such And I've Also Made Many Mutual Friends Through This Game, So It Isn't An Entirely Negative Thing.

All I Can Say Is That Time Could Definitely Be Better Spent Elsewhere. Assuming I Spend This Time Working..

And I Earn $6/Hr > Total Sum $16,734

And If I Put This Amount Into A Fixed Deposit Of Let's Say 2%,

Annual Yield = $334.68. Pretty Impressive Right?

If I Have A Bigger Risk Appetite And I Decided To Do Long Term Investment In Blue Chips With Dividends..

Assuming Rates : 6%

Annual Yield = $1,004.04. Crazy Enough!?

This Is Just A Scenario.

I Have Deleted That Damn Satanic Game Which Sucked Part Of My Life.

I've Finally Decided To Work Hard For My Last Semester. I Have Been Slacking Through Out My Polytechnic Life Since The Very First Day I Step Into The School. I'll Attend Every Lecture And Tutorial But I Barely Put In Any Effort In Tutorials Or Spend Really Serious Effort In Listening To Lectures. Most Of My Exam Results Equates To The Effort Of Last Minute Mugging And Not Consistency Throughout The Semester. And The Excuse I'll Give Myself For Not Doing Well Is That I'm Just Stupid Which Obviously Isn't The Case (Feeling Pretty Lucky To Be Having A C-GPA Nearing 3.5 Still)

I Never Really Challenged Myself For That 4.0 Or At Least A 3.9 (Except During Internship). Previous Semesters Were So Much Easier. It's Down To The Last Semester And I Believe The Things We're Going To Pick Up Is Definitely The Most Challenging And Relatable To Prepare Us For The Real Working World. It Has To Be The Most Useful.

For Once I Ask Myself This, What Have I Accomplished In My Poly Life?

I Have No Idea Now But At Least I Do Have An Idea Of What I Want To Accomplish And How I Am Going To Go About Accomplishing It.

For The Past Few Semesters, I've Been Showing How To Not Do Badly Without Putting In Much Effort.

I Guess It's Time To Show How To Do Well When I Start Putting In Effort.

It's All About Work.

Intern - OCBC

Phew. Can't Believe 22 Full Weeks Flew Past Just Like That. It Feels Good To Be Able To Finally Take A Break (But Not Really), Yet It Feels Nostalgic At The Same Time. I Lose My Breath Whenever I Think Of The Happy Moments That Happened Throughout These 22 Weeks. (':

3 Batches Of Interns I Actually Got To Know.. Lovely People That I Met. I Know I'll Miss These Days. Work Was So Much More Enjoyable Because The People I Have Encountered And Interacted Were Simply Awesomeeee! Great Company Throughout The 22 Weeks.

Will Never Forget The First Batch Of Interns I Get To Know When I First Step Into The Office. They Were From NYP. Really Awesome Mates. Great Company. The Second Batch Was From SMU And NUS. Really Nice People To Hang Out With Too. Was Closest To The Last Batch Of Interns Though, Because Me And My Other NP Friends Had To Handover Our Job To Them As They Will Be Taking Over Our Position For The Next 7 Months.

Was Lucky To Be In A Really Cool Department (Wealth Management) And Part Of A Great Team (Investments)! I Really Enjoy Working With The People There. Working In A Bank Isn't Exactly Easy But It Was A Good Experience. Will Never Forget The Last 3 Days Of My Work! They Were The Most Tiring Yet Most Meaningful. One Of The Days I Was At Work Before 7.30 Am And One Of Them I Left Work At 9.40 Pm. Was Working On A Video For The Department Meeting, The Last I'll Be Attending. (': My Final Contribution.

Anyway Working At OCBC Was Awesome Because There's Monthly Department Meetings And Quarterly Movie Outings And Such. Or Maybe It's Just My Department Which Is That Awesome.

EXPO - WOS

I Actually Didn't Really Gave Myself A Break In The End Because I Found An Expo - World Of Sports 5 Day Job Which Had Me Working Over 50 Hours  During The Long National Day Weekends. Pay Was Okay But My Main Purpose Was To Put My Tolerance To Test On Such A Job. Turns Out I Am More Than That. (: I Really Really Enjoy Being A Retail Assistant. Helping Customers To Get Clothes Of Certain Sizes Or Material And Seeing Them Being Really Appreciative Makes Me Really Motivated. Definitely Not Easy To Find The Sizing Because Who Doesn't Know Everything Gets Really Messy At EXPO Events.

CBTL

Ended Up Getting A Job At AMK Coffee Bean. Have Been Working There For 5 Weeks. It's Not A Simple Job Yet It Has A Fairly Low Payout. It Was Pretty Cool To Be A Barista. Working At Coffee Bean Is More Of A 3 In One Job. On Top Of Being A Barista, You Have To Handle The Cashier And Do Servicing. (4 If You Count Gourmet Which Only Consist Of Simple Preparation Of Ready Made Food) It's Not A Job Whereby You Can Slack It Off And Get Paid. Every Single Cent Is Hard Earned But I Would Say Every Experience Gained Is Well Worth. Enjoyed Working With The People There And I Must Say, I've Grown.

Picking Up The Skill To Make Every Single Drink On The Menu And Even Some Drinks That CBTL Used To Sell Took Me Just 3 Weeks. And It's An Achievement To Me. No Job Is An Easy Job ,But Working At Coffee Bean Has To Be Definitely One Of The Toughest Job Out There. I'm Not Working At The Busiest Outlet But During Peak Periods, Coping Can Be Really Tough And Most Of The Time There's Only 2 Part-Timers + 1 Manager. The Stress Is Real.

Long Working Hours. Short Or No Breaks. There's Always Something To Do. I Remember Working Full 10 Hour Shifts With Only 10 Mins Food Break And No Toilet Breaks At All. It Made Me Realise I Was Definitely A Tough Nut To Crack. Survived It Totally. What I Was Most Thankful For Is The Ability To Multi-Task. I'm So Much Better At It Now. Making Multiple Drinks At Once Isn't All That Difficult Compared To When I First Started.

Still Sadly Though, Had To Leave This Job. Poor Higher Management Team Accompanied By Low Pay Made This Job Seem Really Really Unworthy. If I Was Paid $6/Hr To Learn And Handle Customers At The Same Time Than That Would Be Alright, But After Learning Cashiering And All The Drinks, Having A Pay Of STILL $6/Hr Really Seems Pathetic. It's Easy To Find A Cashiering Alone Job Out There That Pays Over $7/Hr. Break Times Were Also Irregular. I Wouldn't Sacrifice Health For Wealth If I Were Smart Enough. Higher Management Is Just Unreasonable But I Won't Be Going More Into It.

Overall Experience Was Still Positive Though Because I Really Really Enjoyed Working With The People At AMK Outlet And Even When Attaching To Other Outlets, The Managers And Staff There Were Really Nice And I Actually Received Compliments From Some Customers. (:

To Most People, Completing The Race Is The End, But To Me, You Truly Complete A Race When You Are Also Part Of The Team That Made It Possible.

It Was Really Fun And Eye-Opening To See And Encounter The Many Different Types Of People Running And Here Are Just Some Of Them.

1) There Were Runners Carrying National Flags While Running (I Definitely Saw A China Flag).
2) There Was A Runner Asking Me If He Could Flag A Cab Nearby.
3) I Saw A Runner Actually Dressed In Pajamas. Like Seriously?
4) There Were Runners Who Were Giving Motivation To The Other Runners Around Them. Definitely The Ones I Respect Most. They Aren't Taking It Any Easier Than The Rest And Yet They Are Shouting To All The Runners Not To Give Up.

~~~
Back Then..
And Now..
So.. If Anyone Were To Ask Me This:
Is The Feeling Of Running and Finishing A 42.195Km Full Marathon Better, Or Is The Experience Of Being A Volunteer Better?
You Would Be Surprised By My Answer.
Finishing A Full Marathon Felt Great. I Was Above The Skies Flying Really High And What's More, Most People Felt My Timing Was Decent. Gun Timing Of 4 Hrs 34 Mins. I Had Every Right To Be Proud Of Myself. Sure I Was. It Wasn't An Ordinary Feat And Considering That Was My Very First Marathon.
But TRUST ME When I Say This.
It No Longer Matters When You Are Done Being A Crew. A Volunteer. A Part Of The Race. I Can Assure You Most Volunteers Wouldn't Experience And Encounter Some Of The Amazing Things Which I Have Came Across. And I Would Say I Didn't Even Feel Half As Much Fulfilling For Completing The 42Km, Getting A Finisher Tee And Medal, Compared To Being A Road Marshal. Someone Who Is There To Contribute In Anyway Possible. To Motivate. To Inspire.
All It Takes Is Initiative. Being Pro-Active. Being Enthusiastic And Going That Extra Mile.
To Me, None Of These Proved To Be A Challenge. I Was Running The Same Race One Year Ago And Here I Am, Looking At All The Painful And Struggling Looks On Their Face. I Once Felt The Pain They Were Going Through Right Now. It Was A Mental Torture, Especially When You're Running Alone. No One Was There To Motivate You. The Thought Of 'Giving Up' Suffocates Your Mind, Tearing You Apart With Every Step Taken. You Are Literally Dragging Your Feet To The Finishing Line. It Was Hell.
I Had Prepared My Finisher Tee For Last Year's Sundown. Cheering Them On Wouldn't Have Worked As Well If They Didn't Know The One Who Was Cheering Them On Wasn't Just All Talk. Even If It Was, Try Doing It For 7 Hours And Tell Me This Is An Easy Feat. The One Who Had Cheered Them On Was Someone Who Has Experienced All The Hell They Have Gone Through. And Here I Am, Showing Them That The Pain Is Endurable. You Can Do This.
I Totally Lost Count As To How Many Times I've Said 'Come On', 'Don't Give Up', 'All The Way' Etc. I Was Screaming My Lungs Every 10 Secs So You Could Imagine How Many Times I've Said Them.  When I See A Runner Responding To My Words Of Encouragement By Continuing To Run Instead Of Walking.. It Felt Priceless. And Of Course The Countless Thanks I Had In Return. I Never Had That Many People Thank Me In A Single Day Before And This Was Not My First Time Volunteering For A Running Event.
I Was Stationed Along Ford Road At The 9Km (For Half Marathon) And 30Km (For Full Marathon) Mark And Most People Who Came Across This Route Were Drained Out. It's Really Pathetic That All Road Marshals Weren't Given At Least One Bottle Of Pain Relief Spray Or Muscle Rub. At Least We Could Have Attended Directly To Those Who Needed Them Along The Way Rather Than Have Them Drag Their Feet To The Next Hydration Point Which Could Be Far Ahead.
Nevertheless I Still Tried My Best, Offering To Help Those Who Stopped Along The Way To Do Some Basic Stretching. And Most Of Them Were Really Thankful And Grateful. Even Though I Don't Have The Supplies To Attend Directly To Their Needs, At Least I Still Had A Pair Of Hands Which Could Still Be Useful.
~~~

Anyway, Who Would've Expected A Crew Like Me To Run Over 20Km At The End Of The Day?

I Actually Encountered Some Runners Who Took The Wrong Route And Ended Up Far Ahead. Somehow The Road Marshals At Other Points Of The Route Weren't Doing Their Job. If I Was One Of The Runners Who Was Misguided, I Would Definitely Be Really Pissed. The Whole Race Experience Is Ruined. But These People Said It's Okay. They're Here To Have Fun And They Really Wanted To Be Brought Back To Somewhere Near The Place They Left Off. It's More Of An Integrity Issue. They Could've Just Continued From The 30Km Mark, Finished And Still Gotten The Medal And Tee. Respect.

I Ran Together With Some Of The Last Few Runners Of The Half Marathon Along The Stretch. Had A Nice Chat With This Veteran Who Started The Race Late Because He Overslept. He Was Really Nice And What He Said Was Really True. 'Running Isn't About Competing. You Run Your Own Race And What's More Important Is That You Enjoy It'.

The Most Priceless Moment Of The Day Was When I Was Given A Bro Fist By One Runner Who Experienced Overheating. I Had A Nice Chat With Him And Told Him That He Should Really Take It Easy Since There Is No Way He Could Beat His Previous Year's Timing. Brought Him Two Cups Of 100 Plus At A Nearby Hydration Point And Bammmmm! The Next Moment You Know, I Was Offered A Bro Fist. (:

At The End Of Everything, All I Had Was An Aching Body And A Really Swollen Toe (It Was Swollen Before But Got Worse). Lost My Voice Too. The Fact That I Made Some People's Day Better. It Was Worth It. Totally Worth It.

All These Experiences I Had Were Simply Amazing. Something That I Wouldn't Have Felt While Running The Race. It Wasn't About Me This Time.

It Was About The Impact I've Made On The These Runners. The Lives I Had Changed.

Review On Buffet Lunch @ Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant (UE Square)

This Buffet Is One Of The Better Buffets I've Been To. I LOVEEE THE FOOOOD! They Have The Most Amazing Sushi Combos And The Taste Is Simply HEAVENLYYY! They Also Serve A Huge Variety (Over 100 To Choose From), From Sashimi And Sushi(s) To Grilled And BBQ (Teppanyaki). This Is An Ala Carte Buffet So There Is A Menu And You Can Either Make Use Of The Tablet To Make Orders Or Write On A Form (All Food Is Included In The Buffet But The Drinks And Dessert Comes At Additional Cost).

As You Can See From Above, There Are Picture Illustrations To Each And Every Food. A Colorful Way To Entice The Diner. One Tip I Would Offer Here Is To Order The Ones You Like To Eat All At One Go (But Of Course You Must Be Able To Finish Them). This Is Because The Orders Can Have A Long Waiting Time. We Waited Like Almost 20 Mins Before The First Order Came.

Temaki (Hand Rolls)

Too Much Variety To Choose From And Having A Small Stomach To Fill? Don't Worry As There Are Recommendations On The Menu As To What You Should Try, Such As The Dragonfly Maki Roll And Unagi Chizu Tanugi Maki. I Love The Norwegian Shake Chizu Maki (Salmon With Cream Cheese) As Well!

Try Not To Order Too Many Temaki (Hand Rolls) Because You Will Fill Your Stomach Really Fast!

They Do Offer 4 Different Types Of Soup As Well! Oh And Let's Not Forget About Chawanmushi.

Japanese Bacon Pizza!

Takoyaki!

Overall, I Feel That This Was Definitely A Great Experience. Even Though Fruits, Drinks And Desserts Weren't Included In The Buffet, The Large Variety Of Food Offered Still Makes Up For It. Food Was Also Fresh And The Makimono(s) (Mat Sushi Roll) Had Extremely Unique And Delicious Combinations.

Food On The Menu Is Usually Stated As 1-2 Pieces Or 1-2 Servings Per Order. One Thing To Note Is That Don't Get Tricked By The 1-2 'Servings' As They Are Generally Not Small And Food Wastage Is CHARGEABLE!

There Is Always A Birthday 1-For-1 Promotion, Making The Trip To This Place Extremely Worthwhile.
